Playbox

For the playbox activity we used an activity called Star light, star bright. Each student had a hand cut star and wrote a wish they had for the class, community or for themselves.
   For me this was a little sad because it’s the last time we will all be together in class. But we are onto bigger and better things.
    The planning part was easy. I knew I wanted to do an activity like this because we are graduating in a couple weeks. There wasn’t any challenging parts. Jackie and I work very well together.
  I don’t believe I would change anything if I was to do this activity again everything were perfect.

The Hasbro summer learning initiative exists to help shrink academic slide during the summer. They make sure that students keep their skills up to par over summer break. It is a six week program that involves hands on experiences. They reach 1,600 children in eighteen Rhode Island communities . They incorporate math and reading into six weeks of experiences and field trips. Over the six weeks they do activities such as  science investigations, art, theater, drumming, and cooking. They partner with Save The Bay and the Audubon Society for some of these experiences. I think that this aligns with purposeful play and care. The children are learning through play and shrink the gap. Also the teachers gotta show care for these children. And I also think that this is more of a positive youth space. What is Black Lives Matter??

Having to explain this chaotic world to a young person can be very challenging but adding race and politics can only add to that difficult conversation. At first I had no idea how to answer this but after a little bit of research I had a better idea. I guess I would start the conversation by being very broad and hope for the best. I would answer the question exactly the way it has been asked. The first thing I would say is it is about Social and political organizations like churches, government and schools treating all citizens equally. Black Lives Matter is about equality for people of color.Also that they deserve to be treated equally. This can be a very teachable moment. I can show the a young person how to value diversity and to celebrate the differences and to recognize what we all have in common. Funding America’s Nonprofits: The Nonprofit Industrial Complex’s Hold on Social Justice JIGSAW

This article suggests that social justice has been separated from social service provision by the system that is known as the Nonprofit Industrial Complex. (Jennifer Ceema Samimi) . It also states that people working for social justice are limited by the funding system of nonprofits.
